with the release of their last album “smoke” (2013) dapayk & padberg moved to a listening oriented direction, that also works perfectly off the dance floor. the new single “sink this ship” underlines their decision to follow this path in the future … maybe even with their upcoming album “harbour” later this year. on “sink this ship” eva padberg unfolds her matured voice, which shows more confidence than on previous records. dapayk skillfully puts her voice in a common scenery, where the straight beats are long over and where is space for extravagances and inventiveness. however, this is not a radical change turning away from the club sound. two of the most sought-after remixer artists at the moment, robot koch and bebetta, ensure the suitability for the dance floor. robot koch skillfully disassembles (for which he is known) the original. primarily he builds his version on the emotional base of eva’s vocal part and dapayk’s warm bass line. however, on the flip side, there is almost a contrasting change. the slight melancholy of the original track gives way for a typical bebetta techhouse beat, that flows through the club in a dreamy, yet simply irresistible manner.

following on from last years exceptional ‘obsession ep’ from art crime is a budding young talent by the name of will lister. originally from lyme regis, will moved up to london to attend goldsmiths university and in his spare time he helps us out behind the counter here at the shop. when he’s not here at the shop you can also hear him playing records on his balamii radio show or his monthly club night, ‘the aten’. ‘the phantom ep’ is his production debut and we’re extremely happy to be putting it out on our main imprint. the title track opens up the ep with heavily reverbed pads, echoed claps, crunchy percussion and repetitive synth stabs that all work together to create spaced-out atmosphere that’s full of twist and turns. flipping over to the b-side, ‘after the light’ picks up the pace with a driving high-hat rhythm and full-bodied kicks that underpin warm piano keys and smooth synth lines. ‘agency’ closes proceedings by turning up the intensity to full with a masterclass in building tension.

storming into our fifth release from the dirty shores of new jersey, green village is proud to present village elders 001, a compilation ep featuring new material from artists who have already flown the flag for gv. the a-side is held down by the plan b duo of dj spider and dakini9, purveyors of the metro area s dirtiest and deepest house sounds. spider gets toxic a second time,following his 2013 instruction drop with toxic trace 2, a thickly layered deep house cut whose seedy percussion underbelly contrasts vividly with the more traditional deep house pads that accompany it. dakini9 s lost paradise is dark and mysterious like its title, the hats, trumpets, and vocals emerging in tangled webs of dub effects, a strong follow-up to her dope ep for the label. disaroen, a duo from toronto, half of which previously appeared on gv, turns in the most barren of the four tracks, serious doorman, heads-down techno that crackles to life halfway in and an auspicious debut for a promising new group. last is nj heavyweight nicuri, a rising star whose ripples of time closes the ep in his signature searching, melodic style.

andre lodemann is a highly regarded producer from berlin whose debut release dropped in 2004 on mike grant s legendary moods & grooves label. last year saw andre lodemann release his innervisions debut leaving the comfort zone ep. he has remixed for labels such as innervisions, buzzin fly, poker flat and rebirth. squares is a brand new side-project from fish go deep, focusing on completely hardware-based productions and slightly more experimental, left field deep house. tony lionni continues to impress following his osgut ton smash found a place (which continues to drive dance floors into a frenzy worldwide) with releases on versatile, mule, wave and madhouse.

since his last full-length, ode, tin man, aka johannes auvinen, has taken a collaborative approach to acid, bringing his 303 box into studio scenarios with cassegrain, john tejada, aaaa and gunnar haslam in order to explore new territory. on acid test 11, auvinens arrived on a seamless pairing with manchester production duo jozef k and winters son. on the title track, tin mans acrobatic 303 no longer has to do the melodic heavy lifting-the mancunians provide a sturdy yet plaintive piano base that allows a duet of acid lines to cut through the heady atmosphere. interdimensional transmissions boss erika toughens things up considerably with her fates unknown remix, stripping things back to a creepy, jacking core. pendle by night underlines the ad hoc trios propensity for widescreen heft. the tracks epic, emotional tone feels like a natural product of the collaboration

die fans im londoner hammersmith odeon ahnten nicht was passieren sollte, als sie gespannt auf ihr idol bowie aka ziggy stardust warteten. es sollte die letzte show der person ziggy stardust sein. ein furioses set mit allen hymnen aus bowie’s damaligen schaffens dokumentiert die großartigen live-qualitäten von ziggy und den spiders from mars. vor dem letzten song läutet bowie den “bühnentod” von ziggy stardust mit den worten ein: “of all the shows on this tour, this particular show will remain with us the longest, because not only is it the last show of the tour, but it s the last show that we ll ever do. thank you.”

bar musica is a brand new label that promises to inject plenty of charm and originality into the underground house and techno world. the first release kicked up quite a storm from label owner bartolomeo, and the second release features a trio of great originals by j paraguai, with a remix from long time electronic talent bruno pronsato. rumba is up first and is a full fat, corrugated house track with tribal percussion, punchy drums that swing down low and afro vocals. it is a dynamite groove with roughshod tin pot hits that are carefully treated and bring a lovably wild side to the track. thesoundsays founder and berlin based new yorker bruno pronsato has been on the fringes of the underground for more than a decade with inventive eps and lps on labels like hello? repeat and bosconi. his remix is stripped back to a forceful and rubbery techno groove. blistered synths rip up the middle and spooky voices, trippy effects and manic loops all make it a freaky late night or after-hours tune that will send floors wild. ble is then another j paraguai, and this one is again unhinged and urgent, with intense synths exploding above shuffling, tightly knotted minimal drums and sweeping pads. it’s pure wtf music for brave djs and dancers and is a truly original production. then last original atles is rugged and impactful in the way in combines house and techno into new ideas. it is stripped back to little chopped loops that bury deep in your brain and have you in a trance in no time. as such, it rounds out a fine ep and keeps this exciting new label going off in great style.

electro kicks, raw textures, ominous choirs: l immaginario, previstos opening track, ties a bound between martellis two releases on antinote, giving us one last glimpse at the uninhabited post-apocalyptic landscapes drawn in menti singole. however, this time leonardo martelli explores a more urban universe, as the use of rap samples on negli abissi and lo schema suggests. martelli exploits their aggressiveness in a way that somehow reminds us of minimalist rap tapes from memphis. the third tracks title makes it even clearer: called leggende metropolitane, the song is a trip into the darkest blind alleys of the city, an invitation to wander among human wastes, driven by its light kick.

shlomo opens the ep with a deep and droning, yet uptempo track. ben gibson continues on the a-side with a synth and tom-driven track, in which the main synth really draws you into the track. takaaki itoh is put on the b1 spot and continues the deep vibe the artists set on the a-side, yet in a more minimalistic way. his track keeps on evolving and growing ever more, while the track in it s core does not change that much. overall severity closes the ep off with a moody banger. this dance floor oriented track focuses on percussive elements and the drums a lot. this track is one of the last ones made by the late max_m, who formed overall severity together with wrong asessment, which makes this ep a little bit more special. four different artists, but a great sounding ep with four tracks that compliment each other really well!

ra s number 1 voted live act of 2015 kink provides time out of his ridiculously busy tour schedule to provide the opening track roads. kinks remix of moderat is just about to drop on monkeytown as well as his valentine s groove 12inch for clone royal oak. kink has had huge releases on labels such as rush hour, running back (last year s cloud generator ep) and has remixed the likes of sven vath, herbert, nina kraviz and deetron.

quite a few months have passed since adam port released his last original material on keinemusik. it’s been almost too long. but then again, every expert will confirm, you won’t see a “sonnenfinsternis” every other week. port’s new ep is going under the name of that very astronomical curiosity and accordingly, the like-titled cut on a can only be the result of a rare cosmic constellation. it starts with a spoken word field recording. could it be, someone secretly recorded parts of the internal pre-release labelmeeting? we’ll leave that to your imagination. but then, all solid facts. a forceful beat, decorated with hihat-hiss, stoically pounding synthbass, rattling snare-staccato and space-opening synth-layers. finally, some siren’s wailing, just in case someone didn’t get the immediacy of this material. classy floor substance, that is, with the scarcity value of an eclipse. “working for it”, as the first track on the flipside, is rather going for the deeper realms. this coproduction with jennifer touch, a singer/producer that just moved from leipzig to berlin, is built up on a cosy, warm synth-priming, that touch congenially contrasts with her undercooled wavy vocals. an emotional rollercoaster, if you will.

asher levitas is perhaps best known as part of old apparatus, the acclaimed and enigmatic london experimental outfit. over the last few years he has featured on releases for labels including deep medi, houndstooth and left blank as ‘saa’ with the singer linn carin dirdal.
‘lit harness’, his first solo album, started forming as a project in 2015 alongside the artist and writer michael crowe who worked on the live a/v show while asher created the music with vocalist marina elderton (from the ethereal psych band kull) who features on the tracks.
